Over the years, Valle Verde has worked to meet the growing needs of Santa Barbara’s seniors. This began in 1966, when the first residences opened on the Valle Verde campus. Then in 1971, skilled nursing care accommodations, a dining room and a day room were added. In 1981 – when we were faced with an eight-year waiting list of seniors wanting to live at Valle Verde – we expanded our campus to accommodate 320 residents. In 1984, we added more residential apartments, created assisted living accommodations and a fitness center, and renovated the kitchen and dining areas. Memory support accommodations opened in 2003.
Faced with an ever-increasing senior population in Santa Barbara, we are again planning to expand the number of available residences for seniors, while remaining within the limits set forth by the Conditional Use Permit issued by the City of Santa Barbara in 1981.
The Valle Verde Master Plan will create 40 new single-story homes on the Valle Verde campus. In addition to these needed residences, we plan to renovate and enhance community amenities, including the dining room, fitness center and chapel. Plans also include a new staff parking lot to reduce street parking on Calle de los Amigos.
Through the Master Plan, we are also able to set aside 66% of our property for open space and landscaping, including a 9.8-acre oak woodland preserve.
We are currently in the planning and review stages for our Master Plan.
